Being one of seven siblings in a low-income household, Michele desired to pave a new road for herself. Tuskegee Institute gave her that chance. Later on in life, the choices and decisions made by Michele provided her children with many opportunities that she had never had.
Michele's journey was full of risks as a black woman growing up in the Deep South during the Civil Rights Movement. Having very little to invest in her future, Michele went into vast amounts of debt to achieve what she set out for and was told she could never attain. Little did the world know, the fervor of this young African-American woman would be unmatched, unwavering, and incomparable.
After Michele's passing to uterine cancer in 2019, her surviving family desired to invest in African-American women like their beloved Michele. Honoring her legacy by serving women of color striving for a better future is a privilege for us.
"There is a kind of strength that is almost frightening in black women. It's as if a steel rod runs through the head down to the feet."
Maya Angelou
"There is no modernity and no justice without the talent, the passion, and the steely intelligence of women."
Toni Morrison
"I want to be remembered as someone who used herself and anything she could touch to work for justice and freedom... I want to be remembered as one who tried."
